Poem: A Time of Planting

I asked God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves, and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love

Ephesians 3:16, 17 GNB

 Cups of soil

line the windowsill

promising that soon,

plants will emerge.

The students,

charged with supplying

the nourishment

for their plants,

check them continually

through eyes of faith.

Father, thank you

for this lesson,

for in my teaching

you have taught me.

Now I see that my

students are seedlings

you have placed

within my care.

You have assigned me

the responsibility of

nurturing them

I pray that the

sunlight of knowledge

will flood their

minds, and the rain

of discontent will

make them delve

more deeply until they

are rooted academically.

But even more,

I pray that you

will spiritually

nourish them until

they take hold,

becoming rooted

and grounded in

your love.
